USA Today has an article on a new report from Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life that indicates that most people, including many who call themselves Christians, believe that those in other religions will be saved.
Albert Mohler is quoted in the article as calling the findings "a theological crisis for American evangelicals. They represent at best a misunderstanding of the Gospel and at worst a repudiation of the Gospel." He has written a more exhaustive response on his blog.
The report is actually a followup to one conducted last year, that was criticized by some for not clearly indicating whether by other religions people meant simply other denominations. This time, the survey is clear that most "professing Christians" believe many people in non-Christian religions (Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, atheism, etc.) will be saved.
That is a comforting view to hold, but is it what Jesus taught? Here's a link to a sermon outline I preached some time ago:
Are There Few Who Are Saved? (Luke 13:23)
It may be time to preach it again...

I would wish that more would preach a sermon like the one you outline! I want to hear about godly sorrow, which many seem to side-step and life changing repentance. That is what I experienced, but so few preach it!
I appreciate your call, but I am not sure how to approach baptism with people who have been baptized but are not of the opinon that baptism washes away sins. What about people who get baptized because they know they should be baptized, but do not understand it beyond knowing Jesus commanded it? Are they saved or not?
And why is it that many church of Christ preachers like and quote non-church of Christ commentators and teachers if they are not really Christians? The Bible is spiritually discerned is it not? So how can these folk know any truth unless God has revealed it to them through His Spirit?
Just very curious and not a little confused. Thanks!
You ask very good questions, Prodigal Knot.
