McGarvey Commentaries For e-Sword

My favorite Bible software program is e-Sword by Rick Meyers. Most of the study aids available for use in e-Sword are in the public domain and occasionally archaic, but for my purposes they are more than adequate. Its graphical UI and ease of use is far superior to any other Bible software program I've tried.

For some time I have wanted McGarvey's Commentaries to be accessible via e-Sword. Finally, my wish has come true! Robert Lawrence has compiled a single commentary module that includes the following works by J. W. McGarvey and Philip Y. Pendleton:

  • The Four-Fold Gospel (Matthew-Mark-Luke-John)
  • Acts Of The Apostles
  • Romans
  • 1st & 2nd Corinthians
  • Galatians
  • 1st & 2nd Thessalonians

Robert has made this module available as a zipped file in his eSnips folder. I have also made it available for direct download from my EO website.

Simply extract the .cmt file and place it in the e-Sword program folder. The next time you start e-Sword, it should appear as one of your commentary modules.

Thanks, Robert!

I am trying to load the McGarvey commentaries into e-sword. The files posted or linked here are older files (.cmt) and do not work with e-sword version 9. Is there a newer (.cmtx) version of McGarvey available? I would sure love to have it.

Thanks,
Darren Wellington

Darren, a few of McGarvey's commentaries have been made available in the new e-Sword format, which I have found here:

Note that the module claiming to be McGarvey's Commentaries is not complete. The FFG and Acts are complete.
